How to Get Pass the Fear Of Dating

Dating for the first time or after years has passed can be very scary and even more unsettling if it’s been 10 years or more.  What you should know is that you’re not alone. There are other women just like you who are ducking and dodging dating to avoid the awkwardness that comes with meeting someone for the first time.

A good friend of mine just started dating again after 2 and a half years. She was really nervous but wanted to at least start talking to guys. She was open to meeting men online and if a guy approached she would be friendly.  She got a number from a few guys at a grocery store and at bar within a month but was so terrified she put them off for the first date. She even was willing to force her roommate to double date so she wouldn’t be alone.  She could not find a date for her roommate and had to make a quick decision.  One of the guys she liked was asking her out almost daily but she had all sorts of excuses feeling as though the date might turn out to be a disaster. “What if he doesn’t like me or I don’t like him?”, she once told he she feared.

I told her the only way to get over this, is to just go. Jump in feet first. Who cares if he doesn’t like you or you don’t like him, the entire idea is to get out there and start dating. Learn from different dates and be patient enough to receive that first phone call for a second one. Talk to the guy for at least a week and Skype so that you can feel more comfortable with meeting him face to face.

Final Words

You can get over the fear of dating after your first try. Dating is fun because you don’t know what you will get or what type of day or night it will be. It’s like getting a wrapped gift and not knowing what is in it. You may or may not like it. No matter how bad your first date may be at least give yourself a pat on the back that you took the plunge. Now, get back out there and do it again.
